TV Aerial Tester - recommendation please

Chris Tarling

Yellow Hound
Can anyone recommend a good quality unit?
All the ones I can find seem to be cheap and receive poor reviews.
Must be something good out there?

Just a thought, some TV's and set top boxes have this facility built in.
I have an issue that I need to troubleshoot - basically the signal has dropped out from all TVs connected to the aerial. The amplifier in the roof 'seems' to be working - at least it has electricity.
I want something that I can use to troubleshoot the signal.

How long since the aerial was connected up/ installed?? In very similar circumstances here it transpired that the problem was entirely due to water ingress at the junction box up at the aerial. Re-terminating the cable and the issue was solved.

Bypass the amplifier and send the signal to a single TV and see what you get.

If the TV works change the amplifier.

If not the aerial isn't working and as others have said the most likely cause is water ingress either in the cable or the connection box on the aerial.

An aerial with a water ingress problem will show continuity on a DVM but the signal will be lost.
