A proper trailer job...no tax or insurance to worry about.

Budget of say £2k if stock or £4k if someone's already prepped it. For this first one, we're after handling/fun and not absolute speed.

Already had an MX5 so bypass that idea pls...

....I'll kick off with this local to me, well under budget, selection. I've been in touch and just north of £2k would buy that as it's in their way now and Covid stalled their normal spring cleanout ...will get a look next week.

Could be fun for the rest of this season anyway then move up the food/power chain to RWD

You'd probably get a reasonable 172/182 Clio for that.

Yes, was one on the list. Lots are looking for them and as decent examples fade away prices have strengthened I think (maybe too much)

Also looking at R53 Mini Cooper S. Those are a bit unloved by the lads still as seen as a bit girly perhaps but that may change. Look a bit fiddly to work on. Same lads have this one but not for sale:

I just thought the Puma above was a bit more left field. It's a good example with minimal rust but there will be some we all know that. Issue is it might get too limiting too fast? The mini has the Supercharger from stock and can go over 200hp

What was wrong with the MX5? It seems to fit the bill perfectly - cheap, legendary handling, lots of events, ease of spares, etc. etc.

I have no idea what they go for these days as I guess they'll be getting rare, but the Turbo Technics full conversion of the Pug 205 1.9GTI is the most insanely fun track vehicle I've ever driven, not for the faint hearted though they will kill you if you lift off through a corner

That Puma is a cracking start. Power is very little to do with fun on track.

I'm 10 miles from Castle Coombe. One of the most memorable performers I've seen there over several years was a local lad, in a red Mk 1 Fiesta that was his first car, and - later - worked on, and worked on, and stripped out to c. 700kg, by when it sported a totally, thrashable-reliable NA 2L engine of c 150hp - every time he was out, he went around a lot of things of twice that power or more - and made it look easy. The key - I think - was his keeping the scope focused; on development: knowledge of the car, the suspension, of his driving. That was all!

Absolute masterclass in having & holding an idea, rather than simply 'buying the gear'. And fantastic VFM from every perspective.

(and that far in - if he stacked it, as he said himself, he could now replicate for about £1k ...)

A Puma for £2k is going to need a lot of work to get rid of all of the tinworm it's going to have.

They come up alot in discussions actually. I've never driven one (EP2 or EP3) but those engine appear to be near bullet proof.

Apparently it's an EP3, High mileage but as you said bulletproof

to be fair I think Honda make good engines across their whole range, it's one thing they seem to have got right

Probably a sniff off £100k ...I have no idea but some cars a just silly prices now incl the 205Gti.

It's £2K ish - at that, worth a damn good look, to my mind. NB bear in mind I'm a weirdo with a bike-engined toy.

But its Andy's thread and interest - not mine :)
