Today I have mainly been v3

What's the problem with having more choice? we don't all want to drink Watney's red barrel.
Red Barrel disappeared in the 70s as did most crap keg beer thanks to CAMRA.

I am not anti-choice. If you want to drink the vile liquids "craft" brewers concoct, good for you.

The travellers came yesterday, two large caravans and a couple of cars at first. They set up at the far end of the car park, beside the garden centre. Out came chairs and tables. A group of youngsters, the oldest no more than ten, started to wander around the outside of the shops. Then the casual, insouciant vandalism started. A shopping trolley was sent careening down the hill to the farm park entrance, where is crashed into a fence and turned over. A wooden fence was gripped and shaken in an attempt to dislodge it. Cleaning items and caution signs were thrown through the open rest room windows. Another car and caravan slipped in before the owners parked an enormous 8 wheeled aggregate truck across the entrance way, and the gang of children attempted to open the heavy iron gates wide enough to allow in another past it. A queue of caravans stopped on the road outside, creating a tailback of traffic, and the lorry cab and its occupant were surrounded by a group of increasingly aggressive travellers. The atmosphere rapidly deteriorated, and shopkeepers locked doors and ran down shutters. A car was being driven dangerously fast around the car park, skidding to a halt outside the shops, then reversing back, and tearing off in another direction. The children started violently rattling and kicking locked doors, customers of the farm park, with their push chairs and children, formed into a concerned group beyond the fence. People started to shout and curse in a thick Irish brogue. Things had turned ugly terrifyingly quickly.

The police arrived in 5 cars, which were parked in a defensive perimeter beyond the lorry, which was then pulled back. The traffic outside was static. Some 15 policemen and women took stock, checked with the shopowners that no threats or violence had been directed at them, then went over and spoke to the travellers. After 15 or so minutes the chairs and tables were loaded back on, and the convoy formed up to leave, the police holding them back to control their direction of departure. A shop owner held up his phone to film it, and a traveller leapt out of his car and attempted to break through the cordon of police, yelling expletives and threats at the erstwhile cameraman, while his wife shrieked and cursed from inside the car. The police ordered him firmly back into his car, and he eventually relented, amongst a torrent of further expletives. A further altercation with the police took place as to the direction of departure, but the police were firm. Car horns were leaned on, and the occupants mocked onlookers and police from within.

The convoy was escorted to the motorway intersection, and the issue was passed on down the line to Cambridgeshire.

Big problem with prejudice within the traveller community to “others” as I think the term is they use for non travellers.

On a stroll this evening I accidentally crossed into the territory of the local killer deer. Fortunately he must have recently had a hearty meal, or I wouldn’t have escaped with my life. He could definitely sense my fear.

Really -simple-stupid pleasure: managed to park my car, within 15m of front door, on the near side of street, in central Baff.

So I could run extension lead & vacuum cleaner out - and achieve the cleaning job I've wanted, c >6months.

Next up, 12ft-lb .177 airgun to stop the 24/7 toxic-gullshit
Except - that would be illegal: the black-backed gull is protected. & This town centre of c.10k persons (total city, c 75k) - only ' has to' host about 1100 breeding pairs of Gulls at present count :/
( toxic-shite-from-above: oh yes, a clear & present danger ... it's a fam-friendly forum, so I'll spare you the results of the strafing runs recvd in last couple of yrs!)

I’ve never understood why they’re protected in urban environments where they’re not exactly a keystone species, more a rectum with wings.

That would get me psychotic. I rode motorbikes exclusively until my early thirties simply because I couldn’t stand being held up in traffic. I’m calmer now but even a traffic light makes me see red.

Apparently all gulls are a protected species, a favoured local curry house when I was at college was shut down after the the authorities raided the place and found a 147 seagulls in the freezer, apparently the management used pay local kids for them who found rich pickings at the local rubbish dump. Never did us any harm, ‘elf and safety gorn mad cont p94….

Pissing rain now. Wouldn’t be surprised by snow later. It’s forecast for the high country, if not happening & thick on the ground already.

They’re protected in NZ too. One species has suffered an alarming drop in numbers over just a few years, as in from thousands to a few hundred iirc. Loss of nesting habitat in braided rivers may be a cause.

Looks like a muntjac. Weird creatures. They bark like foxes, and in the mating season scream. First time I heard it I thought a child was being murdered, and ran outside armed with a baseball bat.

A Spitfire just flew fast and low over my house in a wide, sweeping arch, giving me a perfect display of its beautiful wing shape. I heard it coming and managed to run out into the garden in time, like a schoolboy. It was lining up for a low pass over the airfield with its paying passenger in the back seat. I feel exhilarated, grace and power.

I can hear it now on its finals, the engine pitch dropped and fluctuating.

yesterday into London for another wander around the back streets of Euston.

Took an alternative route to the train to visit my parents - walk 7 mins from home to bus stop. An hour on the 614 bus, to a stop about 5 mins walk to parents house. Pleasant couple of hours, then 10 min walk to the tube, and two trains later (about 40 mins) in Euston in time for a lunch.

Few pubs, then a dinner in the Chettinad just off of Tottenham Court Rd. Lovely food as usual but again ordered too much..... train home about 9pm to avoid the vomit and drunken behaviour on later trains.

Am doing sausages in onion gravy with mash and carrots plus a little bit of cabbage if its not all stalk. Local airshow here yesterday , huge tailbacks on A66 people were going 400 yards in two hours. The local Mayor is receiving quite a bit of flak, organiser said huh these things happen.
