Today I have mainly been v3

work, operational group meeting. HR paperwork for new appointees - 4 out of 5 have accepted posts.

Went for a walk, the road parallel to ours, has the most amazing displays of blossom on trees this time year.

After being told I have sarcoma cancer in my abdomen area by my doctor the week before last I was nervously waiting for the next stages of my diagnosis.
Well I had the MRI scan and the specialist appointment this morning at Northampton General.
The MRI will be fully assessed by another team but the consultant showed me images on her screen and tried to show me what is going on. There is a very large mass:eek: (her words) just above and to the left of my bladder. It’s pushing the bladder which explains why I keep needing to urinate. She did say that it was very well defined which was hopefully a positive regarding any future surgery.

She was also concerned about a dark area near the top of my left femur - sarcoma can develop in the bones as well.
So I had to have three x-rays on it from different angles this morning but won’t know the results for a while. Also had a chest x-ray and a special blood test, and she wants another ct scan of my chest which I have to wait for an appointment for - hopefully not 10 weeks like the last one.

She said all the scans, x-rays, blood results etc will be looked at by a special team of experts from Northampton, Leicester and Nottingham hospitals to determine exactly what it is and the plan of action. Then it most likely will be a biopsy at Leicester and surgery at Nottingham.

Will feel like a lab rat by the end of it all.

It’s a frightening experience getting landed with a cancer diagnosis as quite a few of us on the forum I’m sure will testify. This is the worst bit- being handed the information and waiting for treatment to start. You can waken up in the morning, open your eyes and feel ok for about ten seconds then remember what it was you went to sleep to forget.

By coincidence I have a friend with a very complicated sarcoma history. A tumour in a location only one surgical team in Britain would tackle- they got it out. It came back but chemo completely removed it then he got one in his abdomen which was successfully removed and if it comes back they have drug treatment for him. He’s currently off sunning himself in Europe and getting back to full fitness.
Best wishes to you and I hope you can get your treatment underway soon.

Hopefully they'll keep the pace up now. Sending Best Wishes.

Despite having a full, clean driving licence I've not driven since I was T boned 25 years ago. I've never missed driving but it's now the time when aging parents need to be ferried around.
2 hours of supervised driving with a local instructor today. Speed control & road positioning need some work! Another 2 hours booked for next week. I had a beer to calm my nerves afterwards...

investigating a breach of some regulations - meeting to reword some other regulations......-

jumping through more government hoops to enable us to sponsor a new employees visa

thanks so much for updates . if it really was 10 weeks for a ct scan i would book one privately . can be done in a few days at reasonable cost [ approx £650] . its good if the mass is defined hopefully as you say

Because of my condition I am now fast tracked through everything.
The CT scan on my chest that was applied for yesterday is already booked for tomorrow morning but more worrying is that I got called out of the blue around 10.00am by the MRI department saying the cancer team had requested an urgent scan on my left femur - so presumably the x-rays they took yesterday showed something nasty.
They have booked me in to have the MRI scan straight after the CT scan.

took the car in for a service. Nice slow walk back via the Lambo, Ferrari, Aston and McLaren dealers to ogle some metal. Scored a nice Espresso courtesy of my mate at Aston (he used to work at pork - sold me my last 4 cars)

This morning delivering some staff development on promotion to one of my groups.

Attempt to mow the lawn, may have to do it in 2 cuts, High and low as it is now about 8" high  , not able to do it before as it has been to wet.

went to collect the car from the dealer from its service. Gave me a discount on account of their mess-up last week.

Out for a nice lunch at Andrew Nutter’s pub. Excellent food. Tesco delivery, and now feet up in front of the fire. Shame there’s no football on. Got to take the small boy to the gym in a bit or it would be an ideal opportunity to open a beer…

Moping around with lower back pain, had just ridden 30 miles with some pretty good climbs, was fine, then back home, bent over with a twisting motion to move my shoes and there went my lower back... aargh, hate getting old! I know it will now be bad for a couple of weeks.

I've had a bad cough so I missed the circuits session at the local Cancer Support Group. mrs seagull went without me (it is open to partners too).

The harem asked where I was, Mrs seagull explained about my cough.

"Who's seagull?" one of them asked.

"He's the tall, fit, athletic one" replied another harem member.

Mrs seagull hadn't laughed so much in ages.

So sorry to hear about your illness Paul.
I hope they are able to put it all right for you.
Best of luck with the outcome.
