It’s a frightening experience getting landed with a cancer diagnosis as quite a few of us on the forum I’m sure will testify. This is the worst bit- being handed the information and waiting for treatment to start. You can waken up in the morning, open your eyes and feel ok for about ten seconds then remember what it was you went to sleep to forget. After being told I have sarcoma cancer in my abdomen area by my doctor the week before last I was nervously waiting for the next stages of my diagnosis.
Well I had the MRI scan and the specialist appointment this morning at Northampton General.
The MRI will be fully assessed by another team but the consultant showed me images on her screen and tried to show me what is going on. There is a very large mass (her words) just above and to the left of my bladder. It’s pushing the bladder which explains why I keep needing to urinate. She did say that it was very well defined which was hopefully a positive regarding any future surgery.
She was also concerned about a dark area near the top of my left femur - sarcoma can develop in the bones as well.
So I had to have three x-rays on it from different angles this morning but won’t know the results for a while. Also had a chest x-ray and a special blood test, and she wants another ct scan of my chest which I have to wait for an appointment for - hopefully not 10 weeks like the last one.
She said all the scans, x-rays, blood results etc will be looked at by a special team of experts from Northampton, Leicester and Nottingham hospitals to determine exactly what it is and the plan of action. Then it most likely will be a biopsy at Leicester and surgery at Nottingham.
Will feel like a lab rat by the end of it all.

Because of my condition I am now fast tracked through everything.
The CT scan on my chest that was applied for yesterday is already booked for tomorrow morning but more worrying is that I got called out of the blue around 10.00am by the MRI department saying the cancer team had requested an urgent scan on my left femur - so presumably the x-rays they took yesterday showed something nasty.
They have booked me in to have the MRI scan straight after the CT scan.
