sudo jobs-admin shows
webmin
Type - system V
Starts on run levels 2,3,5
Stops on run levels 1,0,4,6
Status - running

Active in current run level (2)
Active on run level 3
Active on run level 5
Mode - automatic

Maybe nothing to do with the problem but recently the system asks for a further login password following boot. Previously it just booted into the GUI, now the Gui starts and works but an input box asks for something like
login keyring token, I enter normal password.

I also took the -D (squeezeslave as a daemon.) from the webmin file, webmin is now

# squeezeslave
#
# squeezeslave upstart service

description "squeezeslave upstartservice"

start on runlevel [2345]
stop on runlevel [!2345]

expect fork

exec /home/user/squeezeslave/bin/squeezeslave -F -v off

Sometimes squeezeslave starts on boot and is in LMS, all players are synchronised, and squeezeslave plays / pauses all players but no sound.

Other times stopping and starting within webmin achieves the same result but again no sound.

Terminal output is

user@Revo:~$ cat /etc/init/squeezeslave.conf
# squeezeslave
#
# squeezeslave upstart service

description "squeezeslave upstartservice"

start on runlevel [2345]
stop on runlevel [!2345]

expect fork

exec /home/user/squeezeslave/bin/squeezeslave -F -v off
user@Revo:~$

Terminal command always gets squeezeslave working regardless of webmin stop / start

It's hard to tell what the problem is without any error messages but I'm wondering if the job is being run too early (possibly networking need to be up and running). So you could try:

sudo gedit /etc/init/squeezeslave.conf

comment out the following line (put a # in front of it):

start on runlevel [2345]

then add this line:

start on started networking

(also comment out the "expect fork" line if you have removed the -M from the squeezeslave parameters)

then give it a try by rebooting.

If it still isn't working correctly try running:

sudo grep init /var/log/syslog

there will be too much output to post here, but have a look and see if you can see anything relating to squeezeslave.

start on started networking did nothing much at all.
I changed it back.

Not much output timed at the last reboot, its all here.
Some in green probably not squeeze related but may be my monitor problem.
Squeeze related in red.

Found a solution.
Under the gear wheel top right of desktop (system?)
Startup applications
I found I could just enter the script
/home/user/squeezeslave/bin/squeezeslave -M -F -v off
I think its saved somewhere in ect/

Three successful boots so far

May have been able to use below from here

To install your own script, copy it to /etc/init.d, and make it executable.

sudo cp myscript /etc/init.d
sudo chmod +x /etc/init.d/myscript

To make the script run with the start argument at the end of the start sequence, and run with the stop argument at the beginning of the shutdown sequence:

sudo update-rc.d myscript defaults 98 02

98 and 02 are the start and stop sequence numbers respectively. Both are numbers between 00 and 99 and specify how early or late a service is started or killed. If a service is started late, it should be killed early and vice-versa. A good rule of thumb is to make the stop sequence number equal to 100 minus the start sequence number.

For more information on the usage of update-rc.d

man update-rc.d

Thanks again for your help
