They Khan't do that surely?

Perhaps a steer in a different direction will help dilute the rancour.

A question for the Linn fans.

Take one bog standard 90s Valhalla LP12.

Replace the top plate, sub-chassis, suspension bolts, fit a pretty 3rd party plinth and drive it all with a non Linn PSU.

Do you still have an LP12?

I'd say you don't. You might have something better or worse, but it ain't the LP12 anymore surely?
If you chose the Linn because you preferred the distinctive sound to the competition, you'd need to seriously re-evalute since you cannot make such fundamental changes without changing the signature.

I'd suggest you still have an LP12 Robert, just not a Linn LP12.

The LP12 has been "upgraded" by Linn virtually continually since its release in the early 70's from basically a better quality Ariston RD11 to its current SE spec.

They clearly don't sound the same and some still prefer the sonic presentation of the earlier version and some the new - which is best?
Surely that's a personal preference?
