The Premiership of Mary Elizabeth Truss.Sept 2022 - Oct 2022

Patel is nasty, Braverman is nasty and batshit crazy. Expect every position in this government to be a downgrade.

Braverman knows just enough about the law to circumvent and erode it. She will be an absolute disaster when it comes to our already rapidly vanishing human rights and civil liberties. I expect Republican-style gerrymandering legislation from her too.

Sue Elaine reminds of that other distinguished legal counsel to power:

Starmer or Truss? Amazing that some find it a difficult choice.

I really must concentrate more, Brian. Could've sworn that it was a choice between Sunak and Truss. At the last election it wasn't Starmer either as a choice. If we get that far, it might be in a little over two years' time if nothing implodes beforehand.

I gather she is academically astute and an expert mathematician, but from everything I've seen of her she is also vain, vacuous and a political and strategic dim-wit. I expect her team of 'advisers' and 'handlers' will be calling the shots.

How long before her 'et tu brute' moment (Johnson) . . ?

John
Seeing as she is the new leader of cons I fear she is politically & strategically astute; she just puts herself & party ahead of the country.

You may be right Woodface, but I'm sceptical. Don't underestimate the power of Tory Party donors and grandees with vested interests in having a PM do their bidding. Who better than someone whose vanity and blind ambition leaves them susceptable to manipulation; and a walking talking weather vane that specialises in the reverse ferret. And she does have a team of 'advisors' - handlers, in my opinion.

Got to love the French, I do hope this has lost nothing in the translation

In France, meanwhile, she has been branded not the Iron Lady - which was former UK PM Margaret Thatcher's nickname - but the Iron Weathercock.

When in the media spotlight she always strikes me as appearing out of her depth, a bad actor attempting to remember her lines; a complete fake who can barely believe she's 'getting away with it'. So much so, I can barely bring myself to watch her through sheer embarrassment.

Just my impressions. I guess we'll find out in due course.

John
