The classical what are you listening to now ? thread.

Wonderful music of old favourite to accompany the sun bursts between the cloud bursts.I’m very partial to a sweet flute concerto.

First heard this on one of the Berlin Philharmonic Digital concerts - conducted by the composer, alongside a superb performance of Schoenberg's orchestration of Brahms 1st piano quartet.

I'd never tried any of Peter Eotvos's music before and really enjoyed the violin concerto played by Patricia Kopatchinskaja. There is a fascinating episode in it where the soloist and the leader of the Viola section engage in a very tense stand-off - probably has to be seen live to appreciate. She has recorded it too - but the disc above with Midori taking the solo part also includes the cello concerto which is also very good. Not sure about the "Speaking Drums" percussion Concerto - seems to involve a lot of shouting!

Bruckner Symphony 6 with the Bayerisches Staatsorchester under Wolfgang Sawallisch (Orfeo)

Mahler Symphony 1 with Jascha Horenstein conducting the LSO (Unicorn)

Mozart, Exsultate, jubilate kv 165 with Elly Aming and English C.O. I bought this on vinyl as a part of a collection many years ago and haven't played it until now. (I'm in a Mozart periode). Inside the folder there was a score and a note with the lyrics translated to Norwegian.
Mozart composed this at the age of 17, a miniature concerto. Wonderful music.

I’ve been having a wonderful old time listening to FM radio recordings of music I made about 20 years ago.I copied them on to about 40 cds but as I felt the sound from my cd player and equipment was too edgy I ignored them for many years.
My equipment has improved greatly since that time and the sound at times now seems spectacular...marvellous sense of immediacy, liquid, warm and vivid sound. The music mostly consists of favourite pieces and that retains my interest for long listening sessions and avoids the less interesting parts of the works.I’m really enjoying myself and delighted I made the recordings so many years ago.

Haven't listened to Orff's Carmina Burana in about 25 years so tried this one -

Its superb, great performance and recording. Very surprised it did not feature at all in BBC R3 Building a Library a couple of weekends ago - maybe because it doesn't appear to be available on physical disc any longer. They chose Ricardo Muti's 1980s Philharmonia recording.
The recording above is cheaper at Presto and available as download up to 24/96 Flac. https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/8047785--orff-carmina-burana

Just finished watching J.C. Spinosi conducting the BPO - an electrifying programme of Vivaldi and Rossini with Philippe Jarousky, Haydn 82 and Mozart 41 on Digital Concert Hall. If you’ve any reservations about a modern symphony orchestra taking on this repertoire you can set them aside.
Spinosi’s conducting style resembles a French football manager who’s just leapt out of the dugout, collar open, tie pulled down.
