The best Bond? Not sure I agree.

I think it's easier to rank the really-good Bond films. It's a pretty short list across a franchise spanning nearly 60yrs.

Connery early on was blinding - in Dr No, perfect mix of suave /high-living taste to counter the blunt professional kill streak the way Fleming wrote the part; I think its no surprise that the opener for DCraigs intro in 'Casino Royale' lifts so much from the scene in Dr No where Bond waits, lights off, playing patience, to shoot a man; and builds to modern cinema expectations from there. A tie.

Dalton was the only other actor that tried to channel that, but did not even make the list; those films overall lost out to all sorts of 80s vibe and crap 'Miami vice' inspired production, but a decent Bond - yes, I think so.

Pierce Brosnan could have been a decent Bond if they'd made any good movies with him.

So I'll rank them Connery - Moore - Lazenby - Craig - Brosnan - Dalton

For me Connery at the top by a mile. After that i like them all in certain ones but don't necessarily think there is a clear best. Austin Powers 1 and 2 I thought were hilarious. Quincy Jones theme really made it too!

Out of the 5 James Bond actors since 1962, Sean Connery has been voted the best. Surprising result, as younger people would be more aware of Daniel Craig, who I think may pip Connery.

He's a rich man, Connery, with money in oil. When an American company mounted a hostile take-over bid a year or two back, he was heard to say ' it's not for shale'.
Sean Connery's agent calls him up and says: "Sean, I've got you an audition tomorrow morning about 10ish"
Connery replies "Tennish? I don't even have a racquet"

Roger Moore for me. Sean connery was a bit before my time.

I only just found out 'Never Say Never Again' wasn't considered an official James Bond movie.

Grew up with Connery as Bond, so he’s my pick. The theme music from “Thunderball” was the first LP I ever purchased (in 1965 at age 8)!

Agree with Yank about Brosnan. Thought he made a pretty good Bond, but the films were mostly poor.

Mrs. Hook picked Brosnan because, in a fun brush with fame, she got to meet him. This was maybe 15 years ago at the seaside home of Dick Clark in Ventura, California, at a fund raising event that the Brosnans hosted for Jane Goodall. Mrs. Hook had played a large role in a book project for a local artist, who asked her to accompany her (all expenses paid!) to this event. Other than eating lunch at the table next to John Cusack (“Mista C” to his friends), Mrs. Hook’s fondest memory was getting to meet and chat with her long time hero - Dame Jane herself!

On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the best Bond film, not just by being one of the best books, and the only one where Bond actually loses, but also for the music: it's John Barry's best opening theme (and the film includes a sneaky re-use of work from You Only Live Twice), and Louis Armstrong to finish.

Best actor for me is Connery, who defined the character, and had the best of the Fleming books to start in, but I've always felt Dalton and Brosnan were under rated and poorly served by the 80s films that were so stuffed with slick Michael Mann-style nonsense there was no room left for story or character... Licence To Kill springs to mind.

Connery in Goldfinger. Definitive Bond, definitive film although completely of its time. The light grey suit he wears when he's at Goldfinger's ranch is just the best piece of tailoring I've ever seen. The car looks and sounds the best also, although it should leave those fintail Mercs in the dust.

pah! i'm with connery all the way. imho neither moore nor brosnan had any ... what's the word? personality? oh yeah ... that
