The E cars just look so wrong in motion. They bounce about like a slot toy.

I spent most of the 80s stood at the edge of forest tracks while seemingly out of control rally cars belted past, sometimes only a few inches away. What a buzz.
I haven't been to a forest rally since the 1990 RAC, so I bet that little joy in life has been taken away too.
It was great when the RAC Rally ran from York & finished in Wales. That format gave you plenty of options to pick a special stage to watch the cars belt past. 84 for the Group B monsters in Trenthan Gardens was the first for me. What an absolute blast that was.
Funnily enough, '84 was my first RAC, at Donington.... waiting for Tony Pond in the Rover Vitesse

There was a good mix of the older RWD (Mantas, Escorts etc) and the 4WD Group B back then. The speed difference of the top cars & drivers was really obvious. Can still remember wondering when the first car
What year did he get into the 6R4?

We nearly bought one of the road going 6R4's when they were flogging them off cheap. £12K IIRC but common sense stopped it at the last minute.
Don't remind me...A friend nearly bought one, with a spare shell, for £16k in 1986 or 1987. Funny looking back. If anyone bought one of those and stored it, it'd be worth, at a guess. £150k to £250k.
I'll try to reply from memory. 1985 was the 6R4's first RAC, but it had been used from some time in '84. It started with a V6 donk made from a butchered Rover V8. In the '85 RAC Pond had an almighty battle with the Delta S4s. Sweet chocolate Jesus were those things fast!
ETA: My first rally sighting of the 6R4 was Pond driving it in the '85 Lindisfarne rally. This was also the very first rally for the RS200, driven by Wilson. The RS200 won, but I think that was due to Pond incurring penalties at some point.
Interesting link above, thanks.
Don't remind me...
If I had also kept the SWB Quattro and the original 60's TVR Tuscan V8 then I would be a happy bunny
Yep. I had 4 Quattros between 1984 and 1989. Hindsight is a wonderful thingYou got rid of a SWB Quattro?

Crazy days when we changed company cars every few months.
It was '85 when they introduced the 6R4 and I have a video somewhere of that day with Bill Gwynne. I was the fastest of our group but broke the car! Bill's fault as he just kept saying ' keep the power on, don't lift....' Should be some footage of the 6R4 on it but it might take some time to find it!
So would I if I could find it! I should have the original Video 8 tape so that might be easier to find.Look forward to seeing the video!
