Technics SL1200 turntable upgrades

The Pioneer PLX-1000 looks like almost an exact copy of the SL1200. I wonder if they bought the rights of the legendary turntable.

Japanese companies have an odd relationship.
Working with each other in some places and fighting tooth and nail in others.

From the look I imagine they bought it. Can't think it is out of copyright........
