Technics SB-MX 100D Replacement drivers

I’ve just picked up a pair of Technics SB-MX100D which a friend was about to put in the skip. They cabinets and stands are mint beautiful oak veneer but the surrounds of the bas drivers are completely disintegrated. One driver is somewhere in Singapore looking for a replacement and at the moment I don’t even know if it is retrievable or whether it has been disposed of.

I'm told these are approx 1992 vintage and were not cheap.

My question to you all is should I even try to breathe some life back into these beautys?

I will find out if the missing driver is still alive and if so I think I might try to fix new rubber surrounds but in case the driver is gone for good

Can anyone suggest a suitable driver replacement given the following baffle cut out dims

Overall outer flange recess 190mm diameter
Baffle cut out inner hole diameter 165mm
Fixing holes 6 No equal on pitch circle diameter of 180mm (I can drill new holes if drivers are 5 holes etc but very limited scope to play with the diameter

Original driver was Technics EAS18PL100A
Tweeter is Technics EAS25KH100A
Tweeter is 6 ohm, Bass Driver may be 8 ohm or 6 ohm the print mark is fuzzy

Here’s some stuff from a German website via Google Translate
And here’s some photos

Ported or sealed?

The Eton 7-360 midwoofer is designed for ported operation, which means you'll have to retune the port. Not cheap at US$145 each.

Nice looking driver but the fixing hole pitch circle is I think too small. I have a 165mm dia hole in the baffle and I make those fixing hole centres almost on the line of my through hole.

I looked at the Dynaudio DW172 which on the other hand is just a bit too big and would need the outer flange recess enlarged 5mm all round. Not impossible but tricky

Forgot to say it ported.

And thinking about it a bit morte I think with some dextrous use of appropriate fixings and a bit of araldite I think the Eton would work.

I think it's the best fit I've seen so far

Thanks

I found your note about mx100d. I have two similar loudspeakers, and my my dog(!) attacked one of them, and ruined one eas18pl100a. Did yuo find out if it is possible do get a new one ?

I didn't try very hard to look for an exact Technics part as I was assured by the previous owner who had effectively binned them that they were not available

I did manage to get the missing bass / mid driver back from Singapore but it was not packaged well for shipping and arrived with a few minor cracks in the cone. I was gutted and nearly abandoned the project.

I toyed with the idea of replacing both drivers with those Etons that James suggested but it was quite a lot of money. I also looked into getting them completely reconed and that too was a fair bit of money and as these speakers are in use in my temporary accommodation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and never likely to be repatriated back to the UK where I have more speakers already than I care to mention and my wife is comfortable with I decided to go cheap.

I replaced the foam surrounds using a kit off ebay and did a fairly good job and I reinforced the cracks in the cone with some invisible Scotch tape. Looks a bit naff but sounds fine.

They don't look great but with the front covers on I can't tell which is the damaged one so I decided to live with them. They have been used daily for getting on for two years now and they really sound fine. They go remarkably low considering their size and work remarkably well either side of a 40"TV

I will see if I can remember how to add photos
