A few weeks ago at my local tat bazaar, I picked up a CD player for a nominal amount of cash - I can't recall now whether I paid £1 or £2, but it was definitely one of those two - sold as seen, no power lead but did have a phono lead, the instruction booklet, and a cardboard box (albeit one that had once contained flowers).
Well, this evening I've found a spare two-pin power lead and tried it out... It actually works. Yay! Now listening to Neil Young, Sleeps With Angels, on its variable level headphones output, no amplifier needed. Going green on 11W total consumption.
