Stunning AR XB turntable

I wonder how much this will end up going for.

Always wanted one, but the shop that sold them offered me a Thorens TD150 for £15.00 so I took that instead, along with a Leak Stereo 20 for another £15.00.

Should have kept them both.

Are you sure Tony ? :D It certainly looks damn fine to me.

If my second system had space for a turntable and a phono stage I’d very likely have taken a punt. I actually have a very nice MkI SL-120/3009 just sitting unused as I have no context for it (annoyingly I don’t have the packaging so selling it is awkward). My upstairs room has an awful floor too, not something a floating subchassis deck could cope with! Someone does need to buy this though, it is a very good deck indeed. I’m pretty sure I’d rank it a couple of steps up from a TD-150. The arm looks somewhat agricultural but should happily take a very nice MM.

I have an original XA, bought for £25.00.
Had been in a loft for years.
The top plate has a mottled appearance.
I completely serviced it, bought a new belt and mat for another £25.00.
Fitted with a NAD MM cartridge it sounded OK.

Then someone suggested a Denon MC cartridge.
It sounded incredible after that was fitted.
It doesn’t look as good as this XB, but it is a very good turntable indeed.

My first turntable was an AR 77XB, bought new in 1978. I don't know how much difference there is between the one that went on ebay and mine, but mine wasn't very good! The arm's horizontal bearing consisted of a post rattling about in a hole that was easily too big for it.
