Stockhausen Opera

Missed it as I was out, but I've seen film of the Helicopter Quartet being performed before with Stockhausen at the mixer. All good fun, though my main interest is in his early electronica and tape pieces e.g. Kontakte, Hymnen, Telemusik etc. Will tune into parts of the opera as I believe it's being broadcast online by the Birmingham Opera Company.

I've also seen the film of the Helicopter Quartet being performed and have a caught quite a few Stockhausen pieces at The Barbican.

I must admit that the Radio One commentator who trots out platitudes before and after the helicopter ride above Birmingham has put me right off the event.

He's an odious little prick who isn't informative, funny or smart.

Missed this too but I'e heard some of the other days in this cycle - all good stuff.

For a Stockhausen recommendation, you can't go wrong with "Gesang der Jünglinge" but my personal favourite is "Sternklang" which is another epic that fill up a park.

I wonder if my DG 10" pressing of "Gesang" is collectable...
