I recall it taking off frequently in the mid-80s, when I got a job as a 'Trainee Building Services Engineer' for the Property Services Agency, who look after all Crown Estate. I was 'posted' to RAF Mildenhall.
It was very loud, and shortly after take off, would shoot up nearly vertically. Got a close up once in the hangar, when there was an issue with the hanger doors. We had to wait around half an hour after it had returned before the Americans let us in the hangar, due to 'secret stuff'.
My job in Mildenhall did not last long, as it was costing more in food and rent than I was earning, so had to jack it in.
