Squeezebox Touch Replacement - Lenovo Thinkpad8 ?

Lenovo have just announced an 8.1" HD tablet running full Windows 8.1. Has a USB 3.0 output, and HDMI, obviously no fan or noisy disc drive - £250. You could run JRiver on it (or I dare say all sorts of other players or squeeze things) and stream from a NAS or pc anywhere. See here.

Or buy a Samsung 5 series laptop for £ 4/500 with a 1TB hard drive built in .

4 hours battery run time and no need for an external library (unless you have > 3000 Cds)

Silent electrically (compared with my last laptop) and mechanically.

Oh and a JBL Subwoofer built in.

The £250 (actually, £245) price is taken from the linked article. Presumably, it comes from just running the dollar price ($400) through a currency rate converter. In reality, electronics pricing doesn't work like that. Partly this is due to 20% VAT in the UK, partly just because manufacturers can get away with it.

The UK price, if it's even sold here at all, will probably be more like £400.

But I agree - it looks nice.

Kind regards

- Garry

Right enough - and other reports are putting the price higher, especially with more memory. But it was as much the fact that it is inherently fanless and has no clicking disc that makes it interesting.
