Sony Glass Sound speaker

Popped into the Design Museum in Kensington yesterday.

They had a Sony Glass Sound speaker playing in the souvenier shop - not sure what model it was but they were flogging them for £750.

What struck me was it was actually very listenable (given the simple soft jazz music playing) with good bass and airy treble, and vastly superior to most portable loudspeaker systems, as it should be given the high price.

Anyone else heard one and want to share their thoughts?

This made me recall the Waterfall glass speakers of around a decade ago, perhaps. Didn’t catch on. That Sony unit looks cool, though.

Hmm, nice lamps... can you run a pair of them in stereo?

Mind you, at £1500 they would be considerably more expensive than Duevel Planets, and the marketing bollox about how the glass resonates in tune with human vocal chords is, er... uninspiring

Hmmm, I’m sure I’ve seen one of those somewhere.

Sony have been making a few unusual speakers lately; these SA-Z1 nearfield monitors from their Signature Series, for example...

(Are you sitting down? Only £6,000 or so, as is the DMP-Z1 between them.)

It’s not actually glass.
Organic glass is a type of plastic.
As I worked with glass all my life, I know a great deal about it.
