Some techy help / thoughts please

I have a problem accessing the pink fish forum whilst at home. My iPhone, iPad and Mac all say that the website is not available
It started yesterday morning, so is a very recent phenomenon

I am writing this from my mobile phone on my mobile data

All other websites I visit are still working.

This is what I have tried
I have cleared cookies on all devices
I have changed DNS services
I can ping the pinkfishmedia.net domain from my router
I can access the website from a VPN installed on my iPad
I get the same error if I try the IP address for pinkfishmedia

I am therefore asking for some thoughts as to what to try next as I am at a loss as to what might be happening

thanks in advance

Neil

I will try and post something later
I am with Virgin Media, I run their superhub in modem mode with my own TP link router but have tried three different DNS services

Just a quick check - what IP address do you get in the ping? Here's what I get:

Pinging pinkfishmedia.net [185.65.41.38] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 185.65.41.38: bytes=32 time=90ms TTL=51

It's a long shot - but just ruling out a bad DNS lookup.

Just for completeness, what IP address do you get for pinkfishmedia.net? I get 185.65.41.38.

Yes, I get the same IP address as you when I run the ping

in safari the error message is
Safari can’t open the page “https://www.pinkfishmedia.net” because Safari can’t connect to the server “www.pinkfishmedis.net”

In chrome it says
This site can’t be reached
Www.pinkfishmedia.net refused to connect

In Microsoft edge it says
You're not connected
And the web just isn't the same without you.

Let's get you back online
  • Check to see if data is on or you're connected to Wi-Fi

  • Make sure you're not in flight mode.

    Very odd

Can you pause virus protection briefly and connect?
If virus protection were to blame, mobile data or VPN wouldn't work either. It's possible (technically, at least) for Virgin to be blocking http(s) connections to that IP address. Why they'd be doing that is anyone's guess. Maybe they think it's a porn site. Some ISPs have default-on filters for that.

You say that you can ping 185.65.41.38 from your router however on the Mac go into terminal and type ping 185.65.41.38. Does this work? If not type traceroute 185.65.41.38 and wait until completed. Post results and we'll take a peek.

Cheers,

DV

The ops links dont work for me either, does he have something redirecting him, malware?

the links are ending xn--net-do0a

Which might mean you have a web proxy in use? (Im fishing here, I have no idea)

Mine comes back ok and I too have virgin in modem only mode.

That's because the forum URL detection included the trailing quote marks in the links.
