Solo Acoustic Guitar?

Kit Taylor

So I have these albums, which have all been heartily recommended to me on this forum and contain material that ranges from good to stunning.

Bert Jansch - Jack Orion
Leo Kottke - 12 and 6 String Acoustic Guitar
Jack Rose - Kensington
John Fahey - The Legend of Blind Joe Death
Ralph Towner - Solo Concert
Robbie Basho - Bashovia

What's missing?

TIA

PS Mustn't forget the mighty Dan Reeder!

Davey Graham. 'Fire in the soul' is an excellent compilation. Doesn't seem to beon amazon, though.

Nick Drake -PINK MOON.

Perhaps THE finest ever solo acoustic: short & mournful, but incredibly beautiful and such a talented guitarist: ESSENTIAL.

You should try, Michael Hedges / Pat Donohue / Bob Brozman / Pierre Bensusan / Woody Mann / With Caution Tommy Emmanuel best live or on DVD never heard any good studio albums except "Only" oh and Doyle Dykes.

All the best Tony

chris smither - last train home is quite nice, dick gaughan is less accessible but very good too

Darren

best solo guitar playing is issac guillory live, though it sounds like there are many more guitars playing. I thought it must be multi tracked til i saw him live.

but best solo guitar musically must be nick drake - five leaves left.

respect is certainly due to 'sad or high kicking' by martin simpson though.

i have 'tilt' and love his take on 'music for a found harmonium'.

but compared to guillory he is a beginner (albeit warmer)

Adrian Legg - try "Guitar For Mortals" for starters

Some great recommendations here - I'll second Kelly Joe Phelps and Pierre Bensusan. Try KJP's "Lead Me On" in addition to the wonderful "Shine-Eyed Mister Zen"; starting with Bensusan, I recommend "Spices", or "Nice Feeling", which is sort of a greatest hits collection.

Alex De Grassi. His Southern Exposure album makes me wonder why I bother picking up a guitar - which may or may not be a good thing.

Cheers
