Now looking for a Nap 110 0r 140
Having never heard either. Opinions needed to rest my mind a little

Many Thanks

42.5 was made for the 110 and if it were me i'd keep them how they were intended. 72/140 or 62/140 or 42.5/110. Your other option is the 160 which really works, i use this combo and it really does not need a Hicap as the 160 supply is so good.

Main listening area 8 by 6 standard modern 3 bed end terrace so not a huge area to fill
Forgot to say using Rega Ela 1.5's

110 always sound better than 140 for me, both Chrome bumper and side by side at the time.

Close though, buy either in the best condition/service history you can afford unless you really need more grunt.

Hold out for a 110. Having had a 140, 180 and 250 it is my favourite. Also if you like it you can go mono with two which was my upgrade from the 250.
(Having said that I preferred one 110 to a 250 so long as I wasn't trying to play very loud)

Have to agree with MVV. I had 42.5/110 combo and hearing the 250 could not see this as an upgrade. Sure it had more grunt but the 110 was a more musical amp!

It's odd because the 140 was the successor to the 110. In fact many 110's were converted to 140's by the factory simply by retrofitting the 140 power supply board in place of the single pairs of capacitors the 110 had. Having said all that it's a very musical little amp and a worthy addition to any system. The 42.5 is a very good little pre-amp, often overlooked but one of my favourites.

Virtually nothing in it.
Buy whichever is in the best condition and most recently recapped, at a price which fits.

42(5) with 110/140 is a nice combo especially if you use vinyl.
Great looks, small, excellent phono stages and inexpensive to maintain.
The 42 is one of best looking Naim pres IMO thanks to the large controls.

I think its the output transistors them make the difference BU56s in the 110 and 2SC2922 in the 140.
I made a par of 135 clones and it sounded much better with MJL4281 than TIP32s.

^^ +1

I have a very nice olive 250 boxed up with nothing to do now because it cannot play music as well as my little 110. The 250 goes a bit louder (but not much) and has the edge on low bass definition but everywhere else the 110 smokes it.

I'm sure I've seen 110s with BDY56, 58 and NA002 transistors. Any dead output transistors would be replaced by 001's at the factory.

Thank you, as i don't need to much power it seems the obvious choice is a Nap 110.
Now to find a good one
Once again
Thanks

A good cb 160 really is quite a bit better than a 110 esp one with 002 transistors, I love my 3.hard to find though.
