SME Arm rewire

Brian!

Me again! - see classic area and allen key thread ;)

I rewired my SME 3009 SII imp with a wire 'harness' from SME. It is the same they use in the SME IV - good copper but not the silver used in the V.

I found it quite sraightforward to be honest - you need the right allen keys though, ahem. Because the arm is a knife-edged bearing, it can be lifted off with out the need to adjust as you would with a gimball bearing.

The only tricky bit was resoldering the wire to the arm base. That and securing the earth correctly. This can be quite critical to ensuring that there's no huuummmmmmm.

It was very worthwhile - big improvrmrnt to the sound in all areas.

If you want to go into detail - PM me and I'll give you my email.

Thanks Rich. I think I've got the rewire sussed now. Probably go for Cardas - or Audio Note silver litz if I can get hold of some.
I got a spare new arm-end socket with my 3012 and I read somewhere a tip about soldering the new wires to the old and using the old wires as pull-through. I will install RCA sockets while I'm about it.

Cheers

Brian :)
