Skoda Fabia?

I still prefer the old Escort rally car parking brake in the 70s. Hydraulic discs at the rear, no parking brake included there, so they cut a hole in the transmission tunnel above the uj and the driver could drop the blade of a screwdriver into the uj, job done, passed the MoT as well. (Wouldn’t these days)
On a couple of my rally cars, which had hydraulic handbrakes fitted, I use bicycle brake cables going through holes drilled in the rear brake pads connected to the bottom of the handbrake lever. They wouldn't be capable of operating the handbrake in any meaningful way, but there was a mechanical linkage to keep the MOT guys (and scrutineers) happy.

Ahhh well. I suppose it had to happen...about 3 months in and Mrs Mull's Fabia is playing up.
She had issues getting back from Manchester tonight. About a 20 mile run along the A58O.
Engine light on.Labelled in handbook as ' Control System for Exhaust'. I tried it after she got home. All normal for a hundred metres or so then rough running and it would not go over 2000 r.p.m. Very definite 'limp mode'..but why?
One clue. She refuelled before coming home.
Any ideas/relevant experience?

Well I don’t know much about this sort of thing but I imagine dirty or contaminated fuel could cause some problems.
Was it extremely low before you filled up, maybe some sludgy dregs got in the pipeline then.

There’s at least one filter between the tank and pump/injectors, I’d hope.

… but. The pick up in the tank doesn’t sit on the bottom, it’s slightly above. And, what sludge could be in there? (I’ve never stripped a car’s fuel tank, so I don’t know. But having driven plenty of old cars, and have run out of fuel at times… I can’t imagine what could be in there).

I don't know. Always changed my own on VW diesels.
The thing is, these lifetime fuel filters are sometimes a part of the fuel pump that’s in the fuel tank.

Ok, mostly these filters seem to do ok, and might well do over 100k miles, but as we all know, things do go wrong, and you’ve just added a couple of hours or so to the job.

Car is pretty much spotless in all areas including under bonnet. I'm not completely clueless as always did all maintenance and repair up to changing engines etc .but no more and not too clued up on computer systems in cars Have checked all obvious stuff. Can't see a fuel filter. Air filter looks a bit awkward to swap but may look later.
Have a friend who has a code reader thingy and access to Skoda software so waiting to see what that reveals when he comes round later.

Not sure if this is relevant or not but I had a similar situation on a Volvo V70 years ago. Took it to the independant & he fixed it in less than 30 secs.

How you might ask ?

He took the petrol cap off, put it back on, clicked it 3-4 times. He explained that the system was pressurised & monitored by a sensor, anything less than 3 clicks of the petrol tank cap would ignite that lamp like a Xmas tree & go into limp mode.

From then on it was petrol & 4 clicks, never happened again.

Hmm.I will check that but I did take cap off earlier and replace it.

Meanwhile mate came round with laptop and checked for faults. Everything just reading 'no error'.
So ..switched on. Warning light went out at start up. Ran car about half a mile up the road and light came on and limp mode started again. This possibly at same time the blue low engine temp light went out.
May have to resort to a main stealer....
