Should NAP250 without fuse work?

Hi,

Title says it all really. Got a chrome bumper 250 from UK to USA
Voltage on transfomer changed before I got it.
I knew there would have to be a different rating fuse used.
I looked in the holder to see what was there and......its empty!!!

But it works!!!

Is this correct? Should I put fuse (of correct rating) in the hole?

Regards

Richard

Hello Richard,
"Should NAP250 without fuse work?" - for correct operation - NO!
However, if someone has bypassed the fuse holder, perhaps with a wire link then YES it will work. You need to have a look inside.

The 250 will sound better without any fitted case-fuse but electrical safety is possibly compromised should an internal fault develop.

I said possibly compromised? The USA 250 used to have a 10Amp slow-blow case-fuse fitted as standard. Now if a 10Amp circuit breaker was fitted in the Domestic Fuse-Box and this was the Mains supply that fed the 250, then this 10A Breaker is usually MUCH faster than the case-fuse at disconnecting the Mains supply in the event of an internal fault. In which case from an electrical point of view it is probably safer.
Don't know how the USA electrical regulations apply to this situation.

Try asking Ron the Mon

Best regards
Roy
