Samplers

Just picked up 2 Sampler double albums from 1970.

First up is 'The Vertigo Annual 1970' on the swirl Vertigo label - 49/11 sticker!
Second is Island's 'Bumpers' on the lovely pink with white I label with 29/11 sticker.

Both are in immaculate condition and are packed full of long forgotten artists sitting cheek by jowl with those that would become big names. Somehow these old samplers are more interesting now than they were when first released. I'm really enjoying listening to these.

The New Age of Atlantic from 1972. Notable at the time for previously unreleasd Led Zepplin and Yes tracks.

Got quite a few others but that one I always liked because of the cover (I was only13).

I got into so much music from these compilations - I was only 11 when I bought You Can All Join in and within a year had Nice Enough to Eat, Picnic and this:

I have 1 LP of the 1970 Vertigo sampler without a cover. It cost me 50p used in 1975. I’ve been meaning to buy the full album for some time. The recording quality is excellent, pressed when the tapes were new I guess.

I was only listening to Fill Your Head With Rock last week. That sounds great too. I think my all time favourite sampler is probably El Pea, it really got me into Island as a label.
