I hadn't seen this before. More stuff you never own. I understand companies need to keep earning to develop and support or just to make money! $40 a month. That's quite a lot. I buy the odd soft synth, usually at the launch price and that gives me control of getting what I actually want. My Reaktor hasn't been updated in awhile as I've been using it less. I still have the chance for the same priced upgrade for a few full releases. How long that will carry on is currently----unknown!!

It's why I prefer hardware generally ...

I'm restoring an album from 2000 for remixing that was recorded on Logic 5 with Pro Tools hardware and plug-ins that no longer exist.

It'd be quicker to re-record it!

Print every track and stem! No good telling you now.

They were mostly printed! And not by me. So ...

Digital

  1. Get Exobyte tape and machine out. Find one track was backed up on DAT with DAT A and DAT player chews tape.
  2. Find a USB - SCSI interface and software that works with OSX. Give up and boot a Mac with OS9. Works, phew.
  3. Restore files
  4. Change all files to AIFF from SD II as OSX has issues with the latter
  5. Load into Logic 7
  6. Some Regions in wrong place for some reason
  7. Spend ages lining these up again
  8. Create new Tracks
  9. Copy and rename all tracks and Regions
  10. Save Project
  11. Save MIDI file for the few non-printed tracks
  12. Repeat above as you forget to do a few of the tracks ... oops.
  13. Load logic 7 files into Logic Pro X—mostly works, some don't
  14. Go back and laboriously bounce out each track from Logic 7
  15. Go back and do the tracks you forgot to zero first time
  16. Load MIDI file—places Regions in wrong place
  17. Fiddle with these for ages and fail find out why solo and MIDI doesn't work on imported Logic 7 file
  18. Go back and laboriously bounce out each Track from Logic 7 instead
  19. Try and recreate instrument plug-in sounds
  20. Try and recreate the plugin chain for the vocals
  21. Mix
Repeat with other 10 songs

Analogue

  1. Bake tape
  2. Load onto Tascam 16 track
  3. Record into Logic Pro
  4. Put a 1176 compressor and Neve EQ on vocals and send to Fooger echo
  5. Mix

I like your results so far, very topical.

Dont worry, any "mistakes" are the new mix

(I was going to post the link in the happy easter thread but I didn't want to offend in a thread started with a religious message)

To some, Roland is a religion.

Sadly the mixer has a very good ear.
