Rogers LS3/5a 70th Anniversary model.

I have just seen a You Tube video where Andy Whittle talks about the Rogers 70th Anniversary LS3/5a.
Interestingly he mentions that the drive units are made in the UK, along with the crossover.
The HF driver looks just like a genuine T27.
No doubt these speakers will be snapped up by the Far East LS3/5a Collectors...

70th Anniversary 'limited edition' - LS3/5a

The 70th Anniversary edition of the Rogers LS3/5a harps back to the original 15 Ohm design (later design was 11 Ohm). It uses the original transformer type inductors with the special addition of WBT bi-wire speaker terminals, rear plaque and a signed certificate. Finish: Rosewood red.

A limited run of 210 pairs is to be made in 3 separate batches of 70 pairs:

70 pairs for Asia
70 for EU
70 for Rest of the World

Production Run:

April 2018 - first 70 pairs sold
June 2018 - second production run of 70 pairs

And the point of all this is?

Good question...
I expect planning is in hand for the 80th Anniversary model.

To make loads of money?

If the 70th harks back to the original 15 ohm design, I wonder how it compares to the Falcon LS3/5a ?
No doubt some Far East collector ( with the obligatory multiple pairs of LS3/5as ) could tell us...
I assume Rogers are using the Falcon B110 & T27.

Well, my understanding is that "Rogers" does not exist except in name and that the XXth Anniversary models are actually built by Stirling Broadcast.

I know the 60th Anniversary models were built by Stirling, but I understand the 65th was built in China.

For interested buyers of the 70th Anniversary model, I discovered that Audio Note Lounge in Brighton supplied a pair to a UK buyer.
I wonder what they cost...

Obviously some have more money than sense.... Seems about as relevant as making a mid '70's clone Ford Escort car complete with carbs, crap suspension, 30mpg, pollution and max 85mph and then selling it alongside modern cars but for 3 times the price....

however, for those ford lovers who aren't old enough to own a 70s Ford buying a clone at a higher price tag is the only option

I may be being a bit dim (not unusual :)), but what is it the 70th anniversary of? The ls3/5a's were conceived in the 1970's, right?

I believe it is the 70th anniversary of Rogers the company.
Ah yes of course, established in 1947. Though feels more like the anniversary of the company brand name, given the current ownership and 100% HK operations.
