Repairs by AudioLoudspeakers, near Norwich.

I have just two voice coils replaced by AudioLoudspeakers, the work done by Josh Seago.
It took some time, as he was only working two days a week.
The repairs are fine, except a little surplus adhesive around the dust caps.
Understandable, in the circumstances.
Anyway, they work fine.

Out of interest, I Googled ‘Audioloudspeakers’ and it came up with a number of companies,
including D C Boutons ( speaker repairs ) and Falcon Components.
It appears this Falcon is related to Falcon Acoustics.

Can’t say I know any of the other companies mentioned.

Anyway, Josh Seago told me he is stopping drive unit repairs and moving to a new job in early
November.
I don’t know of any other company who repairs drive units in this country.
It’s a service we could do with...

There are no other speaker repairers in the UK who do anything with voice-coils, and there hasn't been for some considerable time.

You are almost, if not totally, unique in being satisfied with anything from the last UK voice-coil "repairer" in the UK.

I know something of their history, as I posted earlier about getting the drive units for the PMC speakers
repaired.
People replied and you may have been one of them.
Some time ago Paul Seago ( brother, presumably ) repaired some B & W drivers for me.
They were fine.
I recall other people had less good experiences.
I’m intrigued by all the companies mentioned on their website, as I said earlier.

Wembley have probably never done voice coils. They specialise in PA/club systems anyway.
What has happened/is happening to the business, I don't know, but it was basically a two-man partnership and one died completely out of the blue perhaps 2 years ago.

Boutons I have never heard of and did not get a mention on the www connected to anything that I could think to use as a search phrase when looking for a voice coil rebuild.

I suspect that it is just as well that you have no calibrated mic' and the drivers have dust covers fitted.

This seems quite common, Mike.
I do wish someone would offer a comprehensive repair service for drive units.

Some time ago I thought of going into driver repairs with a friend who is an electronics engineer
and audio prof. in the PA world.
He had a lot of experience repairing PA drivers, working with Wembley Loudspeaker.
Also knew Billy Woodman of ATC speakers.
Just the sort of guy to have on your side.

In the end the set-up costs worked against us, so we gave up the idea.

For some balance I had a pretty satisfactory experience with them, they did a decent job of repairing a kef b110 with rubbing vc for me, for a very reasonable cost. Sure, I didn't (and still don't) have a way to measure the speakers, but by ear alone the pair sounded perfectly well matched afterwards.
Plus there was no-one else I could find that could do it anyway, iirc. So whatever people's experiences I guess if you have an out of production unit with a buggered vc and no spares available then you'll be bang out of luck once they stop offering the service!

DC Boultons made a complete pigs ear of a voice coil repair for me. It also took me over a year to get the driver back from this “repair” which I was told would take six weeks.

Hmmm...maybe I should relocate to the UK. Oh, hang on a minute.....slight problem right now.
