Rega RS1 driver torx bolts?

I am looking into buying a secondhand pair of Rega RS1 speakers available locally from a private seller on ebay, but it looks like the original torx screws / bolts have been replaced with brass screw bolts - for some unknown reason. Any ideas why anyone would do this?

After contacting the seller, they said they had no idea why this was done and they bought them just like this secondhand from a Hi-Fi specialist.

If I were to plunge and then restore to original spec, does anyone know what size torx bolts Rega uses, or, is there anything special about the bolts etc?

Have to admit, that's my gut instinct as well - especially as their opening bid price is £165!

The only reason I'm really tempted is that they are in black ash and they don't come up very often in that finish.

I believe original torx screw were basis for magnetic frontgrills fastening.
Rega should be able to deliver these screws.

Looks terrible those brass bolts

Just looks to me like someone did it for "cosmetic" reasons
It might put others off and you get them for the opening bid ?

Yes, that is a possibility. I did a quick search online, and apparently, using brass bolts can stop resonance.

Thanks Paul. Yes, I did raise an eyebrow upon reading a few examples of swapping out standard drive bolts for brass alternatives.

Be really careful that the brass monstrosities weren't larger than the standard torx bolts... They might have enlarged the holes and made retrofitting correct bolts impossible.

You can fix enlarged screw holes in wood by poking a wood glue coated cocktail stick or matchstick in the hole and winding the screw in. If it won't nip up, add more cocktail sticks.

Is the cheese and pineapple* supposed to go inside or outside the speaker cabinet?

*Is that even a thing these days?
