Raymond Briggs RIP

Excerpt from a 2017 film on Newsnight with Raymond reading:

The last time

I walk this path every day,
One day, I know,
I will walk it for the last time,
How many other last times are there?
How many not remembered?

The last time you kissed your mother.
The last time you hugged your father.
The last time you made love
With someone.
The other unremembered last times.

The last time your little boy
Climbed onto your shoulders.
The last time your little girl
Wrapped her arms around you neck,
And cuddled you.

I know there will be a last time
I walk this path.
Before the hospital,
Before the home,
Before ….. something.

And the irony is
You never know,
At the time,
That it is to be,
The last time.

Brought tears to my eyes. RIP the most excellent Raymond.

Brilliant story teller and even better illustrator ... great technique.

I hated the schmaltzy TV version of The Snowman - but reading the obit, apparently he didn't like it either (which made me feel better)

Rest in Peace ...

RIP. Like Douglas Adams, a story teller that grabbed me in childhood and has stayed with me. Ethel and Ernest and When the wind Blows are among my very favourite books. Glad he lived for so long.
