Quick car electrics question

Hello all

I drive a 2006 (mk 8) Honda Civic. The stereo has had an intermittent fault for ages, where it mysteriously decides to thump and click and turn itself off and on. This issue is getting worse.

My question is, if I remove the fuse, that'll be the stereo disconnected, and no issues, right? I mean, removing the fuse won't cause any other problems down the line?

I could get an upgrade but I'd prefer to use a little Bluetooth speaker that I have lying around. Cost of living and all that.

So - am I ok to remove the fuse and happily drive around?

Thanks!

A not entirely uncommon problem with these units and usually down to it overheating... can be because the heatsink has become detached. If you can get it out take it to an audio repair place who will reseat the heatsink for you, but they'll need to specialise in car audio. Might be simpler to buy a replacement unit although make sure you pay with a protected means of payment in case it doesn't work either

Thanks chaps! I'll see how I get on with the Bluetooth speaker for the time being. I'm aware that electrical issues in cars are rarely straightforward, and this might be the simplest solution, at least in the short term.

These things are usually a loose power lead connection somewhere. Wiggle the wires to and from the stereo with it running. If it spits and coughs that's your fault.
