Hello all,
Anyone got any thoughts about/experience of these monobloc amps capable of drivng 100 volt lines, hearing aid loops etc.?
I've heard them described as similar to Quad II valve amps, but with transistors instead of valves.

Basically, it boils down to 2 questions:
1)are they worth having?
2)if yes, where can you obtain the connectors??

Cheers!

They are a mono-block derivative of the 303 with features to select loading etc. I’ve always felt the 303 sounded better than the 405, but I’d still be surprised if they were anywhere near as good as IIs. A pair of near mint, boxed 50Es got an absurdly high price on eBay a while back, something on the high side of 500 quid IIRC which is obviously ludicrous.

God knows where you would get the connectors, but I'd certainly start with asking Quad....

Tony.

Maybe if you joined these guys http://groups.yahoo.com/group/quadhifi someone there may be able to help.

This was on there recently
Well, Hi-Fi Sound 30b Larchfield St, Darlington UK are selling "2 x 50E
Mono blocks and 33 Pre Nr mint, inc leads" for £395 UKP. There phone
number is 01325 241888, but don't seem to have a e-mail/web site. I have
no idea if they do out of UK mail order.

Which seems releativly cheap, but all depends on just how "Nr to mint"
they are! The cables are important as you can't seem to get the murdo
connectors for love or money these days, well you can but for quite a
lot of money!
