Trying to thin the box count here, so next up I’m offering one of my 33/303 pairs.

There is a bit of crackle on switch-on when the 33 is used to power the 303 but nothing major, Rob at Amplabs suggests using some Konact 100 on the volume control but I’ve not got any here. Also the 33 filter controls seem to make the music a bit quieter when engaged but pressing Cancel removes their influence, which most users owners tend to do anyway. The Tape input is set to it’s highest (H) setting and easily accommodates my 2.4V Quad 99 CDP player at full output. The phono stage sounds lovely with my Audio Technica VM540ML.

The 33 was serviced last year by an electronics engineer of 40 years experience and he’s upped the PSU to 16V. He’s also replaced all out of spec and damaged components and adjusted the phono stage for modern cartridges, as well as reducing the sensitivity of the other inputs. It’s a nice example and the one I’ve been so happy with in recent months. Will come carefully and securely packaged in a non-original box, with original Quad 33 manual and circuit diagrams. £215 posted.

The 303 is in very nice condition and was fully serviced by Amplabs in 2016 including new bigger output caps for lower impedance speakers. The heat sink fins are all straight and the connector panel looks very clean too. Really nice example. Will come to you in the original Quad 303 box with original polystyrene inserts. £310 posted.

I’ll throw in a Bulgin to 2 pin mains lead and a 4 DIN to 4 DIN lead to link it to the 33 and two RCA to 5 DIN adaptor leads for connecting modern equipment if you buy the pair. Basically, the set is all ready to go with a turntable and digital source!

If you’d like to collect locally from me in Nottingham I can knock off something for the postage.

    Thanks for looking :)

Gorgeous and evocative. Those and a pair of Quad Electrostatics. That was what constituted porn when I were a lad. If I had the real estate I would go for it...there are even a couple of ESL 57s on e-bay.

...Or indeed LS3/5a like it use, both work well.

A fair bit of money for LS3/5a's nowadays, more practical when homes are also little boxes (at least the ones I live in). But didn't have the same teenage fantasy impact! Would like to hear a pair against modern bookshelf speakers. I digress - this is not selling your lovely 33/303 combo.

Said it before and I'll say it again, used old Quad gear is a bargain but if you're buying buy serviced every time. Rob at Amplabs is the best, plus I also bought a 33 from the same chap who served this one, his work was stunning.

    Lovely gear here.

The serviced Quad 303 looks an absolute stone cold bargain!!!
I had a Quad 303 serviced by a well respected local tech recently and it cost £166, which (if its service was similar) means you're getting the 303 (if it was unserviced) for £100...and it looks in nice nick from the photos.
That seems cheap to me! I was shocked just how good the 303 sounded once it was serviced.
You get some really ropey looking ones on that auction site for this kind of money.

Yeah you’re right, I might keep the 303 and get Amplabs to put their new front panel on it.

What’s the input sensitivity of the 303?

    Always wanted to try one.

chartz If it’s broke fix it!

I enjoy mine every day – with their intended speakers!

0.5V for the 303. I’ve got some 20dB Rothwell attenuators if you want to try them out?

That’s ok... I would probably use it with a passive. Interested in a p/x with my Concordant perhaps?

I would be interested but I don’t have a separate phono stage here. I’m using either Quad 33/34 with a 303, or Croft 25/7 - both of which have internal phono stages. The Concordant would be another ‘occasional user’ for me, but I suspect that doing your pre justice would require spending a decent amount on the off-board phono stage.

303 withdrawn from sale. I’m going to hang onto this one as it’s in such nice condition.

Absolutely amazed this hasn't sold yet, my 33 was serviced by the same guy who serviced this one & it sounds superb.
£150 is a bargain, please snap it up so I can stop dreaming up reasons to buy a spare!
