Hi Guys,

A freind of mine has picked up a cartridge cheap (exceptionally) at a record fair, however when fitted to his arm and on a record the cantilever seems to 'sag', under the weight and the cartridge body can be heard rubbing against the record, altho I noted that the cartidge body is odd shaped, I dont think this is a good sign.

This is such a shame as the cart sounded excellent, loads of bass! anyway , does anyone know what this is? is it normal? is it knackered and if so what it is?

cheers

Is the tracking force correct. The Ortofon site recommends a fairly high 2.2-2.7. If your friends doesn't have scales or a calibrated arm-weight you could always balance it out until it when playing it looks about right. I suggest use a record with no value to do this though.

If you could post a photo that will also help us all to assist.

if it was exceptionally cheap chances are it is shagged, why else would it be so cheap. Might just be the tie wire, or maybe needs new suspension, Expert stylus can fix both of these ills.
