Why?
You say you’re not dancing on his grave so don’t comment. Btw I’m not a royalist, I tend to think they are a useful tourist attraction and I appreciate a sense of history but they have been far from perfect judged by today’s standards. It’s crass though to judge the past by today’s thinking. In 50 years time our current thinking will be seen as ancient and wrong. Why? I'm not dancing on anyone's grave - it's important not to ignore people's 'foibles' (racist or fascist) just because they have died. We go belly up on they the day they die? Come on..
It's what they'd replace them with that would worry me.

The very existence of this thread on pfm is an anachronism. What is a RIP thread? Are there rules? Is it a bit like fish knives? It’s not yet 24 hours since the man died, this an RIP thread let’s keep it that way please.
"They - the English people"...Not a great record in recent years. IMO.As ever, it's the identity of 'They' within that statement I find most worrying.
Please review and understand the intent of post #70.The very existence of this thread on pfm is an anachronism. What is a RIP thread? Are there rules? Is it a bit like fish knives?
If you want to go back in time you could praise him for being President of the WWF or setting up the DofE. What have you achieved, anything comparable?Yesterday, last week, last year?
This really doesn't make good reading for an anti fascist such as yourself now we've gone beyond the immediate RIP part of the thread...

He did it and was a founder of WWF. He didn’t have to, funded or not.I'm not funded to do that - believe it or not...
Yes you are right.Don’t waste you time, the disrespect is pitiful.

I though this was a forum where we could express opinions without censorship! But obviously touching a nerve somewhere.
Mentioned in dispatches I just hear...Didn't Prince Philip spend 1940-1945 fighting fascism?
