I'm currently in the throws of building a NCC200 based amp so I'm on the look out for a suitable preamp.
Anybody help please with a suitable quality candidate that I can find here or on flea bay.
I've just moved house so cash is in short supply so it needs to be less than £350:cool:...
TIA

DIY an 821 preamp?

Buy ready built boards off Les, add volume pot and selector switch, 2 x 24v supply, case and away you go.

Shaun and AlanT have both done this. Ready built alternative is Naim 32/72 with 821's, but then you'll be over budget with a *Cap

Thanks...
I had a look at Avondale and can't figure how I would do this without a motherboard to slot the 821's into. Most likely me being a bit thick.

I wouldn't recommend a passive preamp to mate with the NCCs - the
dynamics of which the NCCs are capable, would be compromised.

I have a very clean NAC 72 you can have for £300 with shipping at cost. Perfect match.

yepp, defo.
A HC, but after you're gonna build an NCC200,
I would rather buy a TPR4 from Les and add a housing, transformer and a pair of Les's caps around it. Much cheaper than a HC & by a long shot better.

I'd go for the 72, is a fair offer and the pre has quite some potential in it still.
