I think the point would be for the pop singer NOT to try to "fill a large hall with difficult music covering a wide range of frequencies, and to do so for prolonged periods of time without any amplification whatsoever", but to do what they normally do - sing in an intimate setting in a recording studio into a microphone. Then they could bring out, for example, the dance rhythms as they can "swing" a lot more than opera singers. I think it is an interesting idea for the right kind of programme material.
