Philips CD pro mechanism, not reading discs (Musical Fidelity A1 CD pro)

I was listening to a few CDs this afternoon and when I went to replay the last CD, about 30 minutes after it had finished, the CD mechanism failed to find the disc.
I took the disc out, turned on and off, tried another disc, etc. Sometimes the disc is read, but as soon as I press the play button the disc cannot be found.

Do the lasers just stop working? or, can I adjust/clean something?

Please help!

Lasers normally fail slowly. More likely to be a failed or dodgy supply rail in this instance, maybe due to failing electrolytics. Best pop cover off, take a few photos and post in DIY section - depending on chipset used there are some common issues.
