The tide was coming in fast; I must go back when the tide is out and conditions are very different.
so is that "guy" actually a sculpture?

Yes, it is. There are lots of them at different positions on the beach. The series is called "Another Place" by Antony Gormley

call me old-fashioned (or something), but i do not like that type of sculpture. we have a few here in the city.

I love Gormley...one of the few modern british sculptors who stand on the world stage. His views (and Sculptures) on the human condition are very insightful.
Field for Britain is my favourite...seen it live at a few different venues and it's stunning each time.

and the Yorkshire sculpture park when it was 'new'. It's eerily compelling.

TomatoesThe low tides in August each year give an opportunity to walk to the fort off the coast at Bembridge. Yesterday was the chosen date, and an army of people descended to walk out to the fort on the causeway:
