I was given this 60s German idler deck today, a PE 2020L

The platter is a respectable 3.2kg and not warped. The idler seems very good too, I think it will form a good basis for a home brew project.

If that's "Perpetuum Ebner" they were acquired by Dual at some point in the early 70s and the trade mark phased out by '75. Supposedly decent quality - but I've never even seen one let alone heard one.

That's the one, apparently this is the last model completely designed by them. Doesn't seem quite as good as my dual 1229.

Having owned (and loved) a 1229 in years past and with a mate with a 1019 - I currently use a 701 - I always wondered how good these PE decks were, as they were built like brick out houses...

If the arm has low friction (especially at end of side) as the 1019 had, it should take the more robust middle ground MM's ok (the 1019 tracked a K9 with ease at 1.7g or so). Currently, perhaps a Goldring 1006 or Ortofon 510/OM10 or even the "baby" Grado?

Good luck...
