Oh Britain, what have you done (part ∞+16)?

And why wouldn't she carry on doing it when she can see nobody is stopping her? Once she was found in contempt and nothing happened, then delayed the meaningful vote and nothing happened, then suffered the biggest Government defeat ever and nothing happened, she must realise she's pretty much immune.

She took back control- from her MPs, from Parliament but not from the EU. They are the only ones stopping her now.

Why aren't the Sensible establishment papers - Guardian, FT - calling for her resignation, relentlessly? Why aren't they demanding that Soubry and co back up their bluster? Why aren't their headlines, every day, "May Runs Down Clock to Appease Party of Psychos"? Where is the constant pressure?
.
That’s the job of Her Majesty’s Official Opposition dear. Theresa might be the political undead but she’s still coming out of her casket and drinking. Jeremy doesn’t have a big enough stake it would seem.

So if the last minute vote in parliament is a choice between May's deal and a long delay as suggested by the reports of Robbins overheard conversation, I wonder which way Corbzy will whip the party.

...., I wonder which way Corbzy will whip the party.

No whipping for comrade jeremy, a workers comittee will be formed, organic vegan food will be served the sun will cool down and they will have forgotten what they were supposed to be discussing.

There's always the chance that May and her team think they have a plan but have misjudged badly. It could be quite a big chance.

May might imagine she'll be stopped by Parliament at some point before we crash out if her deal is voted down. Robbins might imagine that the EU are bound to grant an extension if there's no deal agreed by 29 March. Neither may be true.

We'd have to ponder on whether they are they are the type of people likely to make bad decisions and show poor judgment.

For example, are they the type of people who would make David Davis Brexit Secretary? Or the sort who would loudly blurt out secret plans while drinking in a hotel bar? That would worry me. If they did things like that, I'd worry that they might be prone to poor judgment.

Thank you. In these rather desperate times it is easy to have a cynical raised eyebrow and a chuckle. But sometimes it is good to just roll around on the floor and laugh your head off. Thank you for that.

Lots of good speeches in the house from Corbyn, Abbot, Lammy and others as well as media interviews on Windrush, universal credit, May running down the clock. May as well have been bawling it out at Speakers’ Corner. Opposition rely on the 4th estate to amplify this kind of messaging and they are MIA. Actual politics is now a bunch of aging lefties manoeuvring in parliament and grassroots organising, both ends ignored or vilified by the press. The media has provided a centre for politics for decades and right now it’s just...not there. A series of headlines about 6 MPs thinking of starting a new party and endless columns on how Corbyn’s Labour and May’s Conservatives are Actually Basically the Same. Meanwhile May sets fire to the country to appease a few thousand vindictive pensioners. Good job lads.

You seem unusually critical of labour in this posting? The last 3 words?

I think Mann, Flint and his Provisional Gammon wing will whip him.

Do you not see that Brexit is the proximate threat to British livelihoods? Until it is dealt with, no one will see beyond it. If it’s not dealt with, it will cause a step change in this country’s fortunes and no one’s going to build a new Jerusalem any time soon.

A radical new terrorist organisation is threatening to cause serious harm to the infrastructure and prosperity of the United Kingdom. Unless Parliament adheres to its demands within 50 days, possible irreparable harm will be done.

The figurehead of this group, styled "Prime Minister", is insisting that Parliament meet her demands, despite being rejected several times before.

Do we give in to terrorists?

Rubbish. Jezzer will come to a decision and then tell Labour MPs to vote against it, like he used to do when he was a Labour backbencher.

If that’s the case, why isn’t every responsible journalist on the government’s case 24/7 demanding that they stop taking us all for fools? Why are they reporting May’s every move in Brussels as if it meant something? Why didn’t they hound David Davis night and day for lying through his teeth, or for not knowing the first thing about the EU? Why is it left to an underfunded alternative news organisation to follow the dark money?

Emily Maitlis, yesterday: You know, it’s just occurred to me May might be running down the clock! Like one of close advisers told me she would, in December.

Today in The Guardian: “What Jeremy Corbyn Really Thinks About Brexit.”

FFS!

Sorry, in a mediatised democracy, accountability needs the media. And they are hypnotised by the spectacle of it all. They are just patently not doing their job.

...FFS!...

Your understandable frustration regarding the media seems to be at a similar level to mine about not having a major party considering the views of the half the country who voted remain.

So lets stop messing around with polls. This is too important. It is nearly 3 years since people voted for something so theoretical that any lie seemed plausible. There is now at least a vague understanding of Brexit and if we are not allowed a vote on it this will fester.
It is a narrow vote won by lies, black ops, and Russian destabilisation money which is the problem. Everyone has a better idea now of what brexit will mean, and particularly to them and theirs. Ergo a chance to check the permission box before deleting.

Surely you can saddle up your horse with the LibDems. They've proved in the last how effective they are at implementing their flagship policies. Look how well they did with that tuition fees thing. Surely they can be trusted on Brexit.

I agree entirely, every sensible person, media organisation and political party should be screaming against Brexit and trying to derail it with every tool available. Sadly we have the corrupt media and clueless toothless opposition we do, so down the crapper we go.

I get that but in fairness there was no referendum on whether we wanted the media to abdicate responsibility. The media was also a huge factor in turning this right wing crank issue into a national emergency in the first place. And if journalists were doing their job now there'd be a better understanding of why Labour's opposition is not taking the form that many would prefer.

The money and the black ops were mostly American. And I'm not sure we do have a better understanding of what Brexit will mean, and that's on all sides, not just out there in Daily Mail Land. There are still many on this forum who think that there is no real difference between no deal Brexit, hard Brexit and soft Brexit, for instance.
