I'm sure I read somewhere they bought up a huge amount of stock some years ago. I don't know if that caused the limited supply or they just had enough buying power to get all they could find.

There were many Nuvistor types. I also "heard a rumour", put out by MF of all people... that they had bought up a big stash of the Nuvistor they use in their gear. IIRC they claimed that a set of replacement valves was kept for every amp they made which used them... (Hmmm), I did a full service and recap on a Nu-Vista 300 (great amp!) a few years back and the owner supplied a replacement set of Nuvistors that apparently came from MF.... FWIW
