1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

Companies like Den Motorsport are already doing this, albeit with an old V5 applied to a (basically) new body shell. I've seen people selling Mk2 Escort Chassis plates for crazy money.

Yes there was a firm doing a big wing Mk1 on a space frame (GRP body) that looked the part but was pricey, just forget the name of them at present. This looks to be quite a faithfull replica and with the 2.5 Duratec should be quick and reliable.

It's a nice thing, and with the bespoke high end parts, probably not a huge mark-up, but stop for a moment and think what else you could get for 60k ?

This or an immaculate Integrale ? Or a ropey McLaren 12C ?

I love the idea of all these recreations, but I can't honestly see the value in them, but we are living in a mad bubble for this sort of thing right now.

£60k is a huge amount of money for a toy car (to me at least), but I shudder at the potential running costs of an old Integrale or McClaren. I would have thought that the running costs of the Escort would be much more contained.

I wonder to what extent the market for a new type 2 escort is mid-life crisis in males who drooled after an RS2000 in the late 1970s ?

This for me. Much better stuff out at 60 k.

A powerful n/a engine up front, rear wheel drive, manual gearbox, a timeless shape, fun at sane speeds, sounds better than any Integrale, interior more tasteful than a 12C’s.... and hero status.

I think these have one eye on those who want to play at being Ari on a weekend. I'm not sure there's much else at £60k brand new ready to go that would be as much fun on a gravel stage.

Better looking too....the Chevette has aged better than the Escort. How much is an HS worth now, about 60 grand I suppose?

What looked like an absolute top- bollock rebuild 2.3 HS was £35k. Why would you buy a new car to play rally drivers?

Again, why buy new if all you want to do is race?

I entered a few filters into Autotrader, said £40-60k, and new.

Exiges, M4s and a couple of Caterhams.

I’ve never been a Ford man, but I think I’d rather turn up at a ‘meet’ on a Sunday morning in that Escort than those three.

I wonder what the depreciation will be like?

I’ve never raced, but buying something that hasn’t been, well, raced beforehand might be a more secure feeling.

I'm betting residuals will be solid Tony. I'd bet it's more a question of how much you'll make after your stint of ownership.
