Naim volume control problems

My NAC122X volume control has begun playing up recently. It began when the volume was adjusted via the remote control, it would keep on going up or down after the up or down button was released - acting like a stuck button on the remote (neither are stuck). It could only be stopped by pressing the opposite button, which more often than not would then cause the same problem in the other direction.

Sometimes when the volume was turned down, it would continue to drive the volume down even with the batteries removed from the remote. More worryingly now the amp has once turned the volume up during a listening session all by itself with the remote not even touched (causing a mad dash to mute it!) and once it has turned it down by itself.

The remote is a reasonably new replacement NARCOM5. Nothing in my room has changed, I have even tried listening in the dark and it is still happening.

Anyone any ideas? New preamp time?

If you want to try a reset:-
Switch off power.
Disconnect speakers.
Reduce volume knob to minimum.
Press & hold “mute” on front panel while switching on power.
Reconnect speakers.
