Hi I got a original Naim nait recently; however, I found one channel had a little broken sound. Does anyone know what's the problem or how I can check any points inside the amp. Thanks a lot. :(

Can you describe what you mean by a broken sound ?
do you mean ...intermitant ..comes and goes or crackles.

Disconnect the nait from everything and take the lid off....check to see if anything is loose by gently probing all the wires to the output connections and see if anything moves.

If you locate a loose connection ..re solder it to its correct position.

It could also be a dirty or faulty vol pot ....With the unit swiched off rotate the vol pots back and forth from min to max about 50 times, reset to zero and reconnect and see if this made any difference.

Or the balance pot.
It sounds just like very dirty sound!!The other cha :( nnel sounds OK.
I found the sound probably came from the balance pot. I did spray contact cleaner into it,but it still had the dirty sound. Could you give me more advise.
Thank you very much.

Have you opened it and checked the components over?
Yes, I did open it and sprayed some contact cleaner into the balance pot.
After that, it became a little bit better but the broken sound sitll existed. Is there any passive units that could be damaged?
Thanks :(

If you've sprayed contact cleaner into the balance pot and it made a bit of a difference, then the chances are that the balance pot is knackered.

You can replace it or bypass it. Some people reckon bypassing it gives a subtle sound improvement (I haven't tried it myself) and it will definitely be cheaper.

It should be fairly easy to do; you just need to desolder the pot and replace it with a couple of 2k7 resistors, such as these http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/partDetail.jsp?SKU=339593&N=0

Hope that helps, let us know how you get on.

Cheers,
Carl

Could you give me more details how to desolder the pot and replace it with a couple of 2k7 resistors. Thanks a lot

Not having done it myself I can't really speak authoritatively. However, there are a few threads on here that discuss it and provide pictures:

That's only a couple of them - I hope they help in some way.
