Mystery speakers? Possibly 1950’/60’s

Afternoon - I was going through my father in-laws garage and stumbled upon some old (hone made looking) corner cabinets that contain 10” speakers drivers.

they came out of an old bar/music venue in London probably in the 1950’s or early 1960’s and just wondered if anyone recognised the branding? Possibly R& something?

Anything interesting or worth trying to save?

thanks - Jon

Looks like R&A. A quick Google reveals Reproducers and Amplifiers Ltd. of Wolverhampton, going back to at least 1933.

They are R&A speakers. Likely made in Wolverhampton.
They obviously started life as radio extension speakers and originally had an output transformer fitted to the chassis. That is why it says ''5000Ω load'' on the label. The transformer is gone so guess 3Ω impedance. Maybe 40s or 50s.
The cabinets post date the speakers by a good while...

Thanks so much @snowman_al that is really useful stuff. Out of interest are they worth testing or keeping/repairing and doing something with (there is no longer a hifi in their house to test them with) or not really?

Apparently they were used as part of home hifi system until 30 years or so ago.

Again many thanks. Jon
