And did a shit load of drugs and in some cases overdosed or committed suicide - not a great life lesson for my kids.
Politely, your view is a little stereotypical is all - a couple of high profile incidents has meant a sweeping generalisation on a whole genre.
You're not into rap and therefore I can't expect you to be aware of artists that don't make national headlines, and that's the point - just read up a little before tarring everyone with the same brush.

Maybe I should clarify then. rap or hip hop that encourages violence or glorifies gun/knife crime, i can't think of another genre of music that does that.
From what I understand, John Lennon could be a nasty piece of work but we are all human.
Black metal, and Oi punk spring to mind.
Please don't feel obliged to post any of it I'd rather stay blissfully unaware thanks.
I am a huge fan of hip-hop, grime, drum'n'bass, rap etc......to dismiss a whole genre because some elements may incite some undesirable behaviours is crazy. I suspect if you unpicked it you will find similar in most genres. I have heard a lot of folk music that is about pillaging villages, rock that is about violence, plenty of music of many genres that glorify misogyny or that glorify drug taking or that celebrate war.....where do you stop.
I also think a lot of rap is written in a way that its listeners understand but outsiders such as old white guys likely don’t get. I actually had to read a hugely in-depth online analysis of Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly to figure out what he was on about as the lyrics are so multi-layered etc. It has to be one of the best albums of the past 20 years.
So much to choose from, so I'll tell you my top three songs that I refuse to dance to while I think about it:
I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
It's Raining Men - The Weather Girls
Show me the way to Amarillo - Tony Christie/Peter Kay
Whats dancing...
I understand when violence and knife crime are being glorified.I agree about Kendrick Lamar's album - and I have been searching out the lyrics to some of Wyclef Jean's songs recently to understand the songs.
Listen to some of what Stormzy, Wiley or Dizzie Rascal sing about, some of it is deeply poetic, and pushes back again gang violence culture. To dismiss a whole genre, without clearly having any understanding of it, is all a bit like taking for granted what the Daily Mail has to say about hip-hop.
Do you have any specific examples out of interest?I understand when violence and knife crime are being glorified.
haha, I'll admit it's been a while since I stumbled about on the dancefloor myself lol
No just stuff I have heard in the past.Do you have any specific examples out of interest?
