Met police to hand in weapons and stop killing black Britons

If they don't feel up to the task they should of course hand in their weapons. The police force shouldn't have their backs, it should be 100% coldly objective, which it won't be as proven by the JCDM shooting investigation outcom.

Anyone prepared to give the Met the benefit of the doubt at this stage, or to expect a legitimate inquiry, hasn’t been paying attention, sorry.

What an embarrassing tantrum on their part, to add insult to injury.

Let's see the bodycam footage, as the family are asking.
Yes indeed, just as the CCTV in the tube station showed JCdeM doing nothing untoward and picking up a paper before strolling through the station and using the barriers in the usual way. Funny how the police statements were all very similar and said that he vaulted a barrier. We all know he didn't.
You know, if I were called to court and I lied under oath then it's perjury and I'd go to prison. I always thought that rule applied to the Police too. Am I mistaken?

I think some here would be happy for us to not have any armed police, as that’s what will happen if a ‘no tolerance of mistakes’ attitude is taken.
Of course, that would change instantly if they found themselves cowering in a doorway while a cocaine-fed maniac with a sword and explosive vest was making its way down the street. “Please Mr Policeman, use your Megger on him, pleeeeeeease!”

Unarmed guy in a car and your vest bomber with sword hardly a comparable situation.

Well, that's the threat isn't it? "Don't like us shooting unarmed black folk eh? How about we...don't shoot anyone! Not so liberal now eh!"

Worth bearing in mind that their threat isn't a response to a "no tolerance of mistakes" attitude but to due process. Cops who kill are essentially unaccountable, in that they never go to jail or even lose their jobs, but they can never be unaccountable enough. They're objecting to the inconvenience.

You'd think it'd be in everyone's interest especially the mental health of the cop who'd mistakenly killed someone, if that officer was suspended while an investigation took place. Unless of course these guys are the kind who can sleep soundly after such a tragedy, in which case they should all be suspended for not being of sound mind..

I love the idea of a vest bomber with a sword, showing proficiency in multiple weapon systems.

Just curious, when was the last time the police shot a terrorist in the uk,1970's? You've more chance of tripping on a pavement and dying.

There is some shocking lack of knowledge on this thread:

Not remembering the terrorist, the narwhal tusk etc
Thinking there are no blond Irishmen

Cripes!

The Met specifically do appear to be quick to shoot, to use violence, tasers etc and more racist than other forces.

When tasers were brought in they were only to be used in life threatening situations by specialist fire arms officers where otherwise arms would have to be deployed. They have become the murder weapon of choice (after the lead piping of course - Blair Peach) after just three days of training. The UK needs to rediscover policing by consent...

Police Taser deaths will rise in UK unless action taken, coroner warns

“Amnesty recognises that the police have a duty to protect the public and themselves from harm, but we’ve got serious concerns about the use of Tasers becoming the norm for day-to-day policing."

“The British public should resist the drum-beat of calls for every police officer to carry a Taser. More Tasers would inevitably mean more mistakes, more misuse and more tragedy.

“Tasers should only be in the hands of highly-trained officers.”

Whatever the outcome of this,it should be a George Floyd moment.Black Britons have had enough.

"Some of our powers, like stop and search and use of force, are disproportionately applied to Black people. Latest national data shows that Black people are almost nine times more likely to be stopped and searched than White people and the rate at which we used force was five times higher for people we perceived to be Black."
