Medium Format Film Camera (Hasselblad, Yashica, Fuji etc..)

Lefty

Trade: Amar Sood Photo
I'm potentially looking to buy a Medium Format film camera and wondered if there was anything of interest out there?

Having done some research, I've ruled out the bigger MF cameras such as a Mamiya RB67. This means I'm looking for something like a Hasselblad 500CM, Yashica Mat 124G or Fuji.

Please Pm if you have anything of interest :)

Many thanks,

Lefty

I can highly recommend http://wycameras.com they are a film gear specialist based in Leeds corn exchange.

I use several medium format cameras in these formats....645, 6*6 and 6*9. Avoid the Bronica 645 rangefinders. Brilliant image quality and they shoot in portrait mode rather than landscape. But, they have a weak winding system. I know this to my cost, repaired once at great expense and started showing signs of needing doing again two years later, sadly, they're now unrepairable!

Bronica S2a 6*6 is the Japanese Hasselblad, which is totally manual and built like a tank. You could use it as a weapon, and sounds like one, too! Top shutter speed is 1/1000

Baldalux folding 6*9 this is a cheap way of getting into negs that are something to behold.

Lubitel 6*6 is dirt cheap. Think lomography. I can't stand the smell of mine, it reeks of benzine!

The Bronica S2a is my favourite, I've owned it for years now and has survived a flood.

I had a Mamiya 7 in the day a MF rangefinder and loved it. Used for travel work Velvia was my film of choice.

I had one of these and always regretted my decision to sell it, so I'm sad to hear it is unrepairable.

Thanks so much for the advice and links chaps - really appreciated. The Rolleiflex looks gorgeous, but the money is starting to push Hassleblad 500CM territory, and I think (could be convinced the other way though) that is my preferred option at that price.

Jensen - your Bronica SQA looks very interesting. Just doing some research on it. Is it all good condition / full working order? Also, how much would you be looking for? (Please PM if you'd prefer)

Dan, yes Mamiya 6 is 6x6, but you won't be saving any money by buying one over a 500CM. Mamiya 6 now goes for £1200-£1350 with a standard 75mm. A very nice Hassy 500CM can still be had for£900 upwards. There is the older original folder Mamiya 6 but nothing like as nice as the modern incarnation which is one of my favourite travel cameras.

PM'd back.

Thanks to all for the help, advice and offers of equipment. I am now sorted :)
