From the top of my head: Sowter transformers, advanced clock, big touch display etc. and a considerable price difference but worth the extra cost:cool:

You may be right about the distant future, but for the present and near future I'm sceptical. Once Siri is able to respond accurately to all the ways we pronounce and mispronounce the names of classical composers, artists and so on, I'll be on board. But (as a professional linguist) I really don't see that happening any time soon -- especially given the inability of UK English speakers to get their heads around the pronunciation of German (my specialism).
After October 31st you won’t need to worry about that nonsense, just decent English composers like Elgar and Holst. And Handel of course.

You are confident that the difference between the unknown price of one thing which doesn't exist and the unknown price of another thing which doesn't exist will be worth it?

I will ignore your attempt at giving this a negative angle!

Have you ever tried a transformer based passive preamp?
You could also read the dddac thread on diyaudio to find out what they think about sowter transformers used with a DAC.

I will ignore your continued attempts to disregard valid arguments an critique, and trying to twist them as something hostile and offesive when they are not.
And yes, I have heard and read those.

Sorry, recently I've had a few things to get out and not made a proper list - "small" things like this had got forgotten :(

Actually, your CM3 I had prepared with the heatsink glued onto it was setting on the lab bench "forgotten" and I just used it on the Hardware development unit - in fact I gave the software house a few CM3's so they could swap between software versions.

Later this evening I'll prepare a couple more (one for you and the second for highfi loan unit) - it takes 24 hours for glue to set...

John, any progress on this, please, since June 19?

Well at least my comments was referring to something tangible like the use of transformers and touch screen;)

You have waited for so long, with the MDAC 1.5 PCB being so close to being released - you might as well hold on for a couple more months... We are just issuing a single-ended version of the DAC PCB tomorrow, with the MDAC 1.5 PCB design expected to be completed in the next 4 weeks.

MDAC1.5 - think updated Dacapo (Discrete DAC, upgradable Modulators (even a Legacy modulator option with a twist based on SAA7350 + PMD200 HDCD filter)).

Thanks John, we'll see then, try to use balanced here if possible, If it sounds as lyrical as a Dacapo etc i'll be astonished, i wrote earlier in the thread about how enjoyable the Cambridge Dacmagic 1 you designed was.

Then the VFET amps.

I don't know whatever happened to the slave units that some people ponied up for, they haven't been mentioned for a few years.

I have an MDAC slave unit it's just an MDAC waiting for the upgraded board, is that what you mean?

I’d be tempted after all this chatter, but I think I’ll wait for your MDAC2 because I’m on limited funds...and I’d need a BNC (coaxial) Source of some sort which I don’t have :-(

Was interested to know what this Dacapo was...bet it does sound less clinical than the stuff we get nowadays; which I’ve come to seriously dislike, for music at least ;-)

Thanks

No. As I understand it the slave units were to be used with an MDAC2 to provide surround sound capability in, say, a 5.1 system. I’m assuming that idea’s been scrapped. If so I’d expect the development fees people paid to be rolled up into an overall MDAC2 contribution.

Still, it’s good to see we’re only a few weeks away from a revised DAC being released.

Forgive my scepticism, we have heard that statement far too many times over the past 6 years.

On a separate issue, how do I search for older versions of this thread?

Is there a spec for this mac dac 1.5 which I'm not aware anyone asked for? For example why single-ended? seems like a downgrade from the existing m-dac
Is the Lakewest page up (can't find it)?

I haven't seen a spec for 1.5, not sure if that's exclusive info for the Facebook Only folks.
I just hope we don't get 1.5 and it turns out to be a take-it-or-leave-it option and John decides to pull the plug on the whole sad affair.
